Primary Curriculum

Primary Curriculum

At The Greens in our Primary Phase, we aim to provide an ambitious, creative and progressive curriculum.

Pine Green Academy accommodates children from Year 3 through to Year 6 in its inclusive primary department. All our children are given the opportunity to experience the full range of National Curriculum subjects.

What makes us special is that not only are subjects tailored to each child’s academic ability, but at the heart of all we do, is the social and emotional development and well-being of each of our children.

Most of our pupils start the primary phase with significant barriers to learning and many have already become thoroughly disengaged. We, therefore, facilitate their learning in different ways and ensure that the curriculum is an engaging, enriching and enjoyable experience bringing the curriculum – and learning - to life.

our dedicated staff encourage, motivate and promote academic curiosity through a multitude of learning opportunities

A different theme focus each half-term means that topics can be explored in practical and thematic ways, allowing our children to transfer and apply knowledge across the subjects. This makes learning a more meaningful and purposeful experience. Whether designing egg parachutes, escaping rooms, making dens and hot chocolate in the onsite forest area or creating models from a variety of materials, each child learns to use their numeracy and literacy skills to increase their knowledge as well as to develop their problem-solving skills.

A holistic approach means that many of the barriers to learning can be steadily broken down resulting in children beginning to enjoy their learning journeys, thus opening and stretching their minds to further possibilities and narrowing any previous gaps. Children, subsequently, grow in confidence and develop resilience.

In summary, we seek to offer a curriculum which provides experiential learning by planning equally for each child’s academic and their SEMH progress in order to support our children in becoming well-rounded, literate, articulate and effective learners now, continuing in the future
